Add Subtitles to Video
Burn in or attach SRT, VTT and ASS subtitles
Les fichiers sont traités de manière confidentielle et supprimés automatiquement après 60 minutes.
Upload a video and a subtitle file to create a captioned video. Burn in draws the subtitles permanently into the picture, which is perfect for social media where many people watch without sound. Add as a track keeps them separate, so viewers can switch them on and off.
Subtitles in any language work, including right-to-left scripts such as Arabic and Kurdish, as long as the file is saved as UTF-8.
How to add subtitles to a video
- Upload your video (MP4, MOV, MKV or WEBM).
- Upload the subtitle file (SRT, VTT or ASS).
- Choose Burn in or Add as a track, and a font size for burned-in subtitles.
- Click Convert and download the video with subtitles.
Subtitle tool features
- Burned-in subtitles that are visible in every player and on every social network.
- Soft subtitle tracks for MP4, MOV, MKV and WEBM, added without re-encoding the video.
- Supports SRT, WebVTT and ASS/SSA files; ASS styling is kept when burning in.
- Three font sizes for burned-in subtitles.
Burned-in vs soft subtitles
Burned-in (hard) subtitles are part of the picture: they always show and cannot be turned off, which is what Instagram, TikTok and WhatsApp need. Soft subtitles are a separate track: the video is not re-encoded, they can be switched on and off, but not every app shows them.
Frequently asked questions
My subtitles show strange characters. What can I do?
Save the subtitle file with UTF-8 encoding (for example in Notepad: Save As, Encoding: UTF-8) and upload it again.
Where can I get an SRT file?
You can write one in any text editor, export it from a subtitle editor, or use the subtitles provided with your video.
Why don't I see the subtitles after adding them as a track?
Soft subtitles must be switched on in the player (for example in VLC: Subtitle menu). Choose Burn in if they must always be visible.
Can I convert SRT to VTT?
Yes, use our SRT to VTT tool.
